There is a famous saying: "in theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice they are not."
This is unfortunately very true of compliance in the embedded Linux/consumer electronics supply chain. Even though license compliance should be trivial if all the right procedures are followed often it is a complete mess due to lots of reasons, ranging from sheer incompetence, to downright confusion, hostility and fear of losing intellectual property. In this talk I want to highlight a few of the common problems I have found in the last 8.5 years and discuss possible measures that we as a whole industry can take to make it easier for everyone.
